there are a lot of people here in the forum that have used Windows in it's many flavors for many years, well I see the beta testers have confirmed the existance of the newest MSFT OS, what do you think of MSFT already testing a new OS this soon after the release of Vista? we're all aware of the upside and the downside of Vista but SP-1 hasen't even been released yet,so what do you think the big plan is?

It's a return to how MS ran before XP operating system wise. If it wasn't for XP being as bad as it was before SP2 Win8 would be in beta testing timeline wise with Win7 being released 2007/2008.

The plan is that Microsoft are (attempting to go) to a 3 year schedule for major releases. So this next version is slated for 1H 2010. Feel free to add the Fudge Factor to this date, as we all know how software releases are always on schedule.....

------------------------------ Which Chip? Well, it depends on which set of thieving b@stardz you choose to support: The ones who use insider trading to enrich themselves while running their company into the ground, or the ones who illegally pay vendors to not support the first group.

The complexity of an OS is likely on the same order as a state of the art processor... and Intel normally has several generations in the pipe at a time. Non-issue IMO.

Anyone remember Windows ME?

Touted as the next great end-user OS, contained the seeds of great idea for streamlining the user interface and easing end-user security issues, but suffered from bad memory problems, lack of cpu optimizations and low vendor support; MS tried to force it on the masses, then gave up when they finally ot the clue that people were downgrading to windows 98 en mass to get rid of this inferior "new" OS.

Those who do not remember the lessons of history, are doomed to repeat them. (disclaimer: I may have mangled this quote, but you get the idea :))

I wonder when people will learn... early adoption of MS products is akin to test flying new aircraft. Fun to think about, but clearly suicidal from a professional point of view.

You seem to be using that as an attempt to lower confidence in Microsoft, you saboteur! It's the natural order of things, this beta-testing.

I'm hoping this new version of Windows will atleast have some improved driver support and have the same or better security.. As, I've had no complaints with security regarding Vista so far.In fact with all updates and the new service pack downloaded the firewall is surprisingly robust.
I'm aware every time MS releases a new OS version that there is always certain parties looking to exploit flaws within Windows or it's components. Nothing is perfectly flawless.. I'll keep my fingers crossed in hopes Windows 7 will be less buggy..
