Ok, i got a lcd monitor, o we'll say 1 year ago. its a tyris (who? i know) anyway i got back to my place this weekend after being out of town, and now its dead. it will flicker on for like 2 seconds then its black, i can turn it off and back on and it will be on for a couple of seconds again. i am wondering if i take this guy to a computer shop, if they could fix it, or if i just need to pitch it in the trash and buy a new one. thoughts?

Sounds like the backlighting has died. While it is possible to replace, it will not be very cheap IMO.

I think you should just buy a new LCD monitor, but give a call to a repair shop and ask for a quote.
