I moved to a new house. For Internet, I decided to go with DSL (LBtech - a Covad reseller).

I have a Linksys WRT54G router. LBtech offers no support in setting it up.

I got it working. Setting up the PPPoE was not a problem. But I had to also lower the router's max MTU size (and set it to manual). I set it to 1400 and it has been working fine for a month.

But I began to wonder if I was hurting my speed by setting it lower than it needed to be. So, I have raised it to 1464. I found that number thru trial and error, by using the ping utility (from the command prompt) with the -f parameter (do not frag parameter) and the -l xxxx parameter (packet size parameter).

My question is, should I also set the MTU to 1464 on all my computers?

Or does Windows figure it out? I am using WinXP on all, except my PDA w/ PPC2003.

Like I said, everything is working OK. But I wonder if I would have a more efficient setup (and possibly faster connection), if the MTU size was set to 1464 on my comps.

Thanks.
