I'm looking around to buy the best bargain laptop I can find and I'd like to know where to look. What are some of the best sites/stores to go to buy a decent, cheap laptop?

So far, I've been visiting newegg.com, tigerdirect.com and checking the local Fry's/Best Buy ads in the papers. Ideally, I'd be spending less than $500 for a laptop that I'll be using for 1 year while I'm overseas. Don't expect to play games on it but I would like at least a radeon 3200/geforce 9100m and a built in camera for skype/msn live.

Check out Walmart. I just took a look and they have a few Toshiba and Dell laptops for just under 500. Also, if you have a Sam's club or Costco near you take a look at them as well. I generally prefer newegg for my electronic purchases.

Well, I ended up buying the Gateway MD2614U compulsively at tigerdirect.com...

Somebody tell me I didn't make a huge mistake please...

From the specs, it seemed pretty good for 419.99 with no tax and 2 dollar shipping. Draft N wireless, webcam, radeon 3200 graphics.

If all you need it to do is MS Word, web surfing, music playing and movie watching there is nothing wrong with it. It'll be fine for basic needs, just not gaming.

Nah, not looking for heavy gaming from a laptop, let alone one that's cheap. Hopefully, this thing will handle source games and SC2 possibly :p

poop,

Have u tried CSS yet?
Sounds a damn good deal if that thing can handle CSS..

Assuming lowest details and and texture...etc...

I like xoticpc.com for the simple reason that they pricematch, have amazing computers, and have the best customer service I have ever seen in my life.

Just ordered it today so I haven't received it yet...once I do I'll be sure to test out CS:S, Left 4 Dead, and TF:2. Judging by the countless videos of people playing source games on max with the radeon 3200, I'd assume this laptop can handle it. Keeping my fingers crossed but even if it doesn't, I still like that it comes with 64 bit Vista which i can upgrade to 7 for free, wireless n and a cam :)

xoticpc.com seems a little pricier than newegg/tigerdirect.

TF2, is that Transformer2 ?? or Team Fort.
By the way, which ver. of win7 will u be upgrading to?

I'm assuming it'll be Windows 7 64 home premium since this laptop ships with Vista 64 home premium. And yes, Team Fortress 2.
