Hi!

I just bought a DVD-RW writer, brand new and now to my puzzle, windows XP recognises it as E: DVD-RW but I could not read anything, DVD disc, CD disc. All shows empty.

So is it just simple that this write is dead one so some format problem here. I connect using IDE cable

You have to have the dvd set to master. Also best to have the dvd on it's own ide cable, not connected to hard disk etc.
Check these first and then reboot and enter the BIOS to check settings.
See how this goes.
