Hi there everyone,
I would appreciate a little advice. Hanging out at my parents this holiday, and I really need to buy them a new vid card. They have an AGP Geforce 2 MX that is getting long in the tooth. I'm looking for a card in the $50-70 range. Which card is best for that price? Is it a substantial step up from the GF2MX? Been out of the gaming loop for a long time! I thank you for your tips.
Best,
Tim

You could get a GeForce4 MX440. Same tech, but around 2x the speed.

yes, the MX440s were nice budget cards, but if you could, look for an old GeForce Ti4200 or GeForce 3.

Also, I would look into an GeForce FX5200 , but if you do, make sure it is the 128 bit version instead of 64bit.

I wouldnt recommend any ATI cards for this price range, as while ATI's higher cards are nice, the lower ones dont seem to be worth the money.

Anyway, your GeForce 2 isnt really that bad of a card , depending on which one you have. We had an old mx400 gf2 and i could run Counter-Strike, Quake 3, Battlefield1942, CoD, Ut2003, or any other fairly new game at that time with no problem, but with some graphical tweeks.

Radeon 9550 128-bit is the same as the 9600 but with the chip clocked slower, a better card than the 5200 128-bit.
