Hi guys! Just got my first HD-TV today! Got a Vizio 37 inch, the VX37L. Also got a Toshiba DVD Player that Upscales, the D-KR10.

Here is my problem. We are trying to playback a DVD tonight, Melrose Place Season 1 which is a full screen DVD. My problem is, if I set the DVD player to playback at 1080I or 720P, I can not set it on a normal setting(Not wide screen). The TV will only allow me to choose Wide or Zoom. I have tried every option available including setting the DVD player to all the different TV Sizes(4:3 letter box, 4:3 pan and scan, 16:9 Wide). But when I set it to 1080 or 720 it only allows me to set it to wide or zoom. I am using HDMI to connect the DVD Player to the TV.

If I set it to 480P then I can watch it full screen with the black bars on both sides.

Is this something I am doing wrong?

I appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Tom

DVDs are not played back in high definition because dvd format came before hd tvs. Setting playback to 1080i or 720p does not improve quality of playback.
