Forum Computer Peripherals : Flat Panel Monitors Returned 2407WFP-HC now what?

I had originally decided on getting a Samsung 244T but given the poor movie performance of a friends and Dell was having sale I went with a 2407WFP-HC. That didn't work out. Now I'm not sure what in the way of a 24" monitor I should get. All the reviews are blurring together at this point. Except for the HC I was pleased with the 2407. Can anyone recommend a suitable monitor?

They are a little more pricey but the fp241w monitors from BenQ are supposed to be good. WHat was the problem with the dell?

The problem was the saturation issue caused by the HC. Beautiful for games but caused problems with most other non-color managed applications. I'll take a look around for reviews of the FP241W, thanks.

Here's a link to the BenQ FP241WZ, Dell 2407WFP, and the LG L246WP:

BTW, the FP241WZ was at the top of my list until I decided to look at 26" LCDs.

I haven't bought my 26" LCD yet 'cause in in-between jobs right now.

There are only three 26" LCD monitors.

The Acer has one selling for around $650 (I think), but it uses the inferior TN panel so that one is definitely off my list. It also has a normal 72% color gamut as opposed to the wider 92% color gamut found on the other two monitors.

The Planar PX2611W is the monitor I want to buy. It's selling for $949 on Dell's website. Tack on $104 for 2-year extended warranty (for a total of 5 years) then add tax on to that, the price shoots up to about $1,150. Hopefully more places will sell it. CDW was selling it for $899 not too long ago, but it's up to $949 now and is out of stock.

The last 26" LCD and certainly the cream of the crop is the NEC LCD2690WUXi which I've seen for $1,500, but is usually a little more expensive than that. Both Planar and NEC uses the same H-IPS (a new version of the S-IPS) panel, but NEC has more bells and whistles such as:

1. A special clear coat that gives wider viewing angles, and might give better color saturation (gotta research this point).

2. Internal video signal processing to give better image quality. This is apparent when game console like the Sony PS3 is plugged into the Planar and the monitor is set to 1080i/p. The Planar lacks this feature and suffers from color banding which means colors appears in darker or lighter shades across horizontal "bands" on the screen. Not a big deal for me since I don't own a game console.

3. The NEC allows you to pivot the monitor. With the Planar you are stuck in landscape mode.

4. The most important feature is for the graphics professional. The NEC has a 12-bit gamma correction look up table to provide even higher color accuracy. This means the NEC's response time is 8ms as opposed to 5ms for the Planar.

5. The OSD option menu put the Planar's and all most all other LCD monitors to shame.

6. Standard 4 year warranty as opposed to Planar's 3 year warranty.

7. I'm sure there is more features, but I don't know them off the top of my head.

Hmmm....

Maybe I'll save some money by drinking a little less and use that to cover part of the price difference between the Planar and the NEC.

Gee... ive been researching lcds for a while now and from what ive seen you know a heluva lot more than me hehe

Ive been looking at the Dell 2707 which atm i think ill get justwaiting on a dell special, i found the acer that you speak of but ive never liked acer (i used to warranty repair these notebooks) and the specs and looks were not right for me.

My bigger issues is im in AUS and i dont think i can get the Planar or NECat all same as some of the newer samsungs. So hence the Dell decision, i wanted bigger than a 24", its got a 92 gamut got the connections i want and it looks good. I was only worried about the Shear and Ghosting on games but hopfully that wont be an issue.
