i've decided to get the following for my new build :
MSI K8N neo2 platinum mobo.
AMD athlon 64 3500 + (socket 939, 0.13 micron)
Leadtek geforce 6800 GT
WD 80 gb 8 mb cache 7.200 rpm hdd
Audigy 2 ZS
Swiftech 6400-V cpu heatsink + a 80 mm fan
Swiftech 159 NB heatsink
Fortron 530W PSU

can't decide about the ram..i'm going to buy a dual channel pack (512x2) and there are only 4 dollars difference between them (gold rev 2 pc 4000 is 4 dollar more expensive). I couldn't find any test which included gold rev2 pc 4000, so i cant really compare. i do wonder though why is there such little price difference between them. why is the platinum so expensive? is that platinum mirror finished heatsink worth that price? or does the platinum edition have more than that? i mean why would anyone pay $270 for a pc3200 ram instead of paying $274 for a pc4000 ram. Btw, the platinum is capable of 2.5 - 3 - 3 at DDR480 and 2.5 - 4 - 3 at DDR500 upto DDR 580. on the other hand the gold is capable of 2.5 - 3 - 3 at DDR500(read this on the ocz website). i dont know about higher though since i couldn't find any tests..
so, the question is of course, which one should i buy?

PC3200 Platinum Rev2 is excellent memory, much better than their PC4000 Gold. It'll OC just as well at the same timings (or better if you give it some voltage) and it runs 2-2-2-x at DDR400. The BEST memory available is OCZ's PC3200 Gold VX, but that needs at least 3.3V to really get going. OCZ's next best is their PC3700 Plat, which is just the best PC3200 Plat Rev2s. Then the PC3200 Plat. Rev2s, then their PC4200 Plat, then their EB series, then their PC4000 Gold Rev2s...

To sum it up, their PC3200 Plat Rev2s are much better than the PC4000 Gold Rev2s, but there are even better solutions.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.
