I am running on a 20gb ata100 maxtor but my new motherboard is also sata compatable,can i have both types running together?

With a view to transferring the data over to the sata drive for better performance and then booting from that drive, keeping my old eide drive as a slave.

You can have both, but 7200RPM SATA drives don't perform better than 7200RPM ATA100 drives.
