My laptop has had a power issue for some time now, the battery is known to be faulty, but used to power up. As of late it has been not powering on at all and all I get from it is one single light blink from the power led. I was wondering if it would be just the bad battery that could be the problem or what I can do to actually troubleshoot it aside from testing each component individually. The memory harddrive cpu are known to be good if that helps as well.

Remove the battery and see if it powers up.

check a different ac adaptor make sure it isnt that. Check if battery works on different laptops if that doesnt work the switch/motherboard might not work anymore.
