Hi, im just thinking about buying a headset with mic to use for gaming on the pc, but i was wondering wether plugging this in would mean all music goes to the headset and my speakers stop. Is it possible to isolate just the mic, or have the game sounds in rhe headset and say WMP through speakers?

Its the sort of thing that i doubt is supported, but have never tried before.

You can buy a headset with mic that has separate jack for mic and head sound. Also you can change the setting on you audio properties to send sound to both the headphone jack and speaker jack.

Even onboard realtek 600 and 800 series has this option.

Yes, some sound cards allow you to change the functions, what to input or output, of each jack by several clicks. The sound card embedded on my Asus P4P800 mainboard allows me to do so.
Therefore, tomdrum, please check you sound card and see if it supports this function.
