Epson Stylus C48 not detected

Ive got a Epson Stylus C48. When i plug it into my pc via usb, windows simply does not acknowledge its existance. There is no sound to signal the dection of a usb device. Ive tried it both on my usb2 pci card and the onboard usb 1.1. My usb ports are otherwise functioning normally, they have no problem detecting my zen and usb memory sticks.

Any ideas? Is the printer just knackered or does it sound like a software issue? It has worked in the past on the same system, however recently I re attached it to find its own software no longer detected it. I tried re-installing the software to no avail.
