It's easy enough to locate a dupe-finder. Tougher to find one with a
nice UI, and that doesn't crash when scanning large drives. Any
recommendations?

Does Systemworks have a duplicate file finder?

And just a teensy word of advice - if you are looking for this type of
program because you think it would be a good idea to remove duplicate
*system* files (as opposed to data files you created), don't do it.
Leave things alone. There are supposed to be duplicates of many system
files. Oh, and Norton products are awful.

What he said !! Often times things expect to find a given
file in a specific location -- the fact that it may also exist
somewhere else doesn't matter - it better be there. For
your data files, looking for dups is a good idea though.

I pretty much know what I'm doing in this regard, but good to have
your reply there for the sake of other readers.

One step further: I really believe that system and programs belong on
their own partition, and that data should be kept on a separate
partition. Aside from other benefits, you won't have to scrutinize
the output from a dupe-checker as closely (it's still a good idea to
check it, but it usually won't result in catastrophe if dupe'd data
files are deleted). I don't remember ever running a dupe-checker on a
system/program partition.

Just wanted to check back and thank you for the recommendation.
Duplic8 works very well. Crash free so far. Very fast, even given
the byte-by-byte compares. Some extra features that set it apart from
the herd.

Thanks again

Try NoClone with nice UI. how many files do you have to scan? She says
she can scan under 300K files in a sigle search, in fact, you can
filter out some files and folders by size, date and path to reduce no.
of files in a single search. In addition, you can use her time-saving
Smart marker to filter duplicates for removal / archival. -
