Multi monitor and notebook....emachine 768n

I have a dv2210us (which I kinda regret getting, but I needed something quick...). I recently got a free emachine 768n crt monitor. For some reason it won't come out of standby. I have my desktop extended so why wouldn't it show....turned off the display option in my power plans (oh yeah I'm using Vista), restarted, unplugged and plugged the monitor back in, still nothing. It shows the "self test" but nothing else. It has worked before, but I left my computer on over like 3 hours and it stopped working ever after. I have unplugged it for a couple hours and tried again. I've unplugged it and held the power button for 4 or so minutes and still nothing. I've also brought some elses notebook in to test it and it still doesn't work...please help
