Can someone please give me some helpful advice on which memory i shud get for my setup. upon reading the boards im none the wiser, infact im more confused than to begin wid.

i have a A64 3000+ (90nm) (939) processor with a Asus A8V deluxe motherboard.

Shud i look for single or dual sided ram?
which memory has a good price/performance ratio? as im a student with small budget but like to overclock my machine. currently running processor at 2.43ghz as opposed to 1.8ghz with stock cooling.

thanks

If you want quality memory go with 'major brand', ie Samsung, Micron, Infineon.

If you want to buy cheap memory that works, go with Elixir name brand (Elixir is usually better than other downgraded brands or 'non-major' parts)

If you want higher performance (mainly for gaming, but not data integrity) I think Crucial has a good reputation.

In general, double-sided memory performs slightly better than single sided memory. And in a dual-channel setup, it is ideal to run identical paired memory. 1GB total memory is optimal.

The Version 2 A8V Deluxe has a working PCI/AGP lock. I have seen a 265mhz+ clock on one. You will need PC4200 to get there, or, maybe lucky with Crucial Ballistix PC4000. Kingston PC4000 will not go there.

Abit IS7 - 3.0C @ 3.6ghz - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - Yellowtail Merlot
