About a year and a half ago i got my Acer for £550 which has:
2 Ghz core 2
4 gig ram
8600 Gs with 1GB turbo cahce
250 GB hard drive
cam and card reader
and mini sub woofer
i have been keeping my eyes pealed for anything which may be better than this for under £600 but to be honest nothing comes close
all i see is 2.2ghz at best with a 9600 GT if im lucky
thats not enough improvment to make me buy a new laptop
does anyone know when the core i7,5,3 series will come to laptops and when nvidia will start to develope a decent series of GPU;s for midrange laptops
i have decided my next laptop shall have a next gen CPU, DDR3, and the equivelent of a 9600 GT but from the 200 or even 300 series, once i can get this for around £600 i may buy a new laptop as this will give a worth while preformance jump, perosnally i dont see this happening for 2.5 years or more
I would really like to see AMD Phenom II quad cores to enter the laptop CPU market. I hope they can make it efficient enough. Maybe put some Black edition ones in it too with unlocked multiplier. Be able to use AMD's software to disable cores when not needed for better efficiency. Haven't heard anything about quad cores on laptop from AMD though.
Usually it takes a year or more for desktop parts to trickle into notebook ones - but even then, they generally don't perform like their desktop counterparts.
AMD's CPU line is already inefficient enough, I don't think the Phenom architecture will ever make it into notebooks. Also...overclocking mobile CPUs? Only for specific brands who really take the time to design good cooling systems.
