Hi, does anyone know of a way of switching from 5.1 speakers to a headphone and mic setup without climbing behind a tower and unplugging everything please? Is there any type of switch you can buy for this? (Audigy 2 soundcard)

Thanks,

Anx

That's a speaker/amp feature. Some powered speakers and some component speaker amplifiers have a headphone jack on the front that, when used, disables the speaker output.

...So there's nothing I could buy as an add-on to enable me to do this then ?

I thought the audigy 2 didn't use the mic port when doing surround. Even the audigy 2 value has separate plugs for front, rear, center/sub, mic, linein, and digital. Is it an old audigy 2 revision or something?

I'd just like to be able to swap between 5.1 speakers and a set of headphones with a mic without unplugging stuff everytime, i guess there's no other way atm.

With an audigy 2 value or higher soundcard you can use 5.1 headphones and a mic at the same time because there are separate plugs for each of them.
If you don't have that you are going to have to continue what you are doing :(
It would be a little easier if you ran an extension cable off the mic plug or something, then you don't have to reach behind the computer every time.

I just used a 4 or 6 foot extension cable. set it up so i could switch the cables right on my desktop. worked great.
