D-SLR is prety much like SLR except film is replace by sensor.

SLR is used if better image quality is needed or if a person want's better control on the shot.

My mother who doesn't know much about vamera prefer my SLR camera. She said the SLR is easier to use than her newly aquired digital point and shoot and her old canon elph camera that I've gotten her.
