Has anyone got their sidewinder precision 2 to work on XP? I had it working
on an earlier xp based computer but I'm having trouble installing it on my
laptop. I'm a novice with computers but realised the software given with the
stick on the cd wasn't working as it was for windows 98. I went to the add
hardware wizard after uninstalling the software and plugged the stick in and
was surprised to see that it was recognised and supposedly 'installed'.
However, clicking on properties reveals a warning box entitled: Internal
Error. Then underneath saying Necessary Support Files not found!
I am confused on what to do now, and the only way of installing the stick
now is through device manager. What is wrong with the stick and will I be
able to use it on xp?

Hi Tom,
Since you've had it quite some time, it's most likely a gameport model
To install a GamePort controller, Plug it in, click Start / Control Panel /
Switch to Classic view if you haven't already / click Game Controllers
Click Add... / Select Microsoft Sidewinder Auto Detect / OK / OK.

The Precision 2 should be a USB only device. You should just be able to plug
it in and have hte system detect it. If that isn't the case you should check
to see if there are updated drivers for your USB chipset.
