Sony Monitor Troubles - Any ideas?

Hello all,

My dad's Sony SDM-HS7SP monitor suddenly went black/blank
today. If you turn it off and back on, it will display correctly for
about a second before going black again.

I initially checked to make sure all the connections were tight.
Afterwards I switched to different power and data cables. No luck.
Anyway, I am 99% sure it is the monitor. I am unable to see the
monitor menu options when it goes black (I can see it for that
one second).

Anybody have any troubleshooting ideas? Or do you think the
monitor is just pooched? With the cost of new LCDs these days,
I assume it isn't worth repairing?
