I know this is tiresome but I also cannot get my new Maxtor Diamond plus 9 to be recognised with win xp pro. It is a new drive and i am booting win xp set up from 6 floppys and when the point comes to partition all i get is "no drive installed". I have read about sata controller driver install but since the pc and drive are new I am not getting any prompt to install such a driver. Also i didnt get a driver with the pc. I get as far as the end of the 6th floppy then no drive. the boot up says PRIMARY MASTER:NONE But the drive is listed in the raid utility.I have installed xp on sata before and this didnt happen. could some kind soul help me with an idiots guide to sata installation on an asus av mobo I will have their children thanks

You're using it on a RAID controller? What board do you have?
If your board has a chipset with integrated RAID, you would be better off to use the integrated controller, setting it up in BIOS so windows settup sees it as an IDE drive.
If you MUST use a 3rd party RAID controller, you'll need to get the drivers for that controller onto a floppy.
Booting from the XP CD, you'll ALWAYS get a prompt to hit F6 to instal a third party controller driver from floppy. If you DON'T see that prompt, you're NOT LOOKING! It comes up while the screen is still black.

Thanks for the reply I am not sure about the RAID the m-board is an asus a7v600 with AMD 2800 barton with on board raid and while i pissed about with the bios i entered a prog which sets up raid and the drive was listed. will i still get the option to install the sata drivers when i run setup from a floppy(well 6 floppys) as my xp cd is not bootable. as soon as the 6 floppys have done im asked if i want to install xp when i press enter the "drive not found" comes up. when do i install drivers? .also no sata driver came with the system. the lack of clarity is mainly due to the fact that i bought it for my partner and only got it today and its at her house.I have an Abit ic7 and installed xp no problem.
thanks again but i wont sleep till iv got it.
isnt technology marvellous!
You are not loading a sata driver, rather, a raid controller driver. The driver is on the mb driver cd or can be downloaded at that asus.com web site.
When you are installing xp, you'll need to hit F6 as soon as the bottom of the screen shows the files loading and you should notice the option to press F6 for other controllers.

thanks for the help guys. I have obtained a bootable xp cd rom so i should be able to copy the sata drivers from the asus mobo installation cd to a floppy and try to install by pressing f6. heres hoping.but thanks again for all the prompt assistance.
