My XP Pro wouln't boot.

Typical "can't find the kernel"...

So, I popped in the install disk and chose the console.

I ran chkdsk -twice - it did reboot to my profile.

However...(in addition to Admin I have two "users")

In Documents and Settings I have "duplicate folders (Three for adming
and to two for another user) My primary profile (the one folder and
files which appeared to be corrupted and were "repaired by chkdsk did
not "duplicate?!).

So - - What folders can I safely delete (I'm most concerned with the
duplicate admin, two have a .XPcorp (computername) and .XPcorp.00 as
does a "user" profile. All Users. Default User. Local Service adn
NetworkService were not "duplicated" (nor was my defaull logon, the one
which chkdsk spend half an hour "fixing".

My guess is I can "delete" the "dupes" with the older dates? However, it
seems odd that the newer folder have the extra extensions?

I'm not too concerned about space - - they're small? I just wonder if
they might be causing any problems (I believe they were created during
an earlier failure when I did a restore of the systems state.

Finally, is there a way to do a system restore if I can't boot to the
OS? I dual boot to W2k - -I doubt that would help...can I do a system
restore via the console or the install disk - -

I was lucky i went for the console as I suspect a repair from install
may have wiped some things out - -I doubted chkdsk would work and it was
slow - -but it brought me back.

Now I'd like to deal with the duplicte folders in D & C (from the
earlier restore of system state)...also, any way to do a System Restore
if I can't boot to the OS?

Since you didn't bother to include your first message, *I* for one, and
perhaps others, have NO idea what you are talking about. If you sent a
message, and didn't get a reply, look at your first message and see what in
it led to no answer, and repost rather than coming here and bitching because
no one answered.

Not _bitching_.

Simply speculating why on Day III I had not heard a word on the questions.

I've "looked" a it several times since Friday morning and if I knew
"why" it wasn't answered - - I might not have had to ask the questions.

I don't know from experience, but I suspect what I would do is set a restore
point so I could go back if I had to, and then delete the ones with the
oldest date. Leave them in the recycle bin in case you need them back.
Reboot and see if everything runs as it should. If so, then--and only
then--empty the recycle bin. You can always restore if you have to.

What does a restore point have to do with duplicate folders in D 'n' C?
I have not used System Restore. I used a System State .bkf restore
-- A while back. That's when the duplicate folders were created.

After my sys didn't re-boot on Friday, I ran chkdsk...

My only quesition about SR concerned if it could be executed if one
can't boot to the OS.

So, am I the only person who thought the above answer was dubious at
best and only began to addrress my questions (which I wlll post isn
full, for the third time below)
