I'm looking to purchase an LCD monitor but I don't know a whole lot about them. Seems like every wide screen 19 inch monitor I find has a preferred or standard resolution of 1440x900. Can I consider that as it's maximum? I currently have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a 17 in widescreen, and I'm able to set my display to higher resolution.. unfortunately I don't remember what the specs were on the display when I purchased my laptop.

Thanks!
You're laptop will either be WSXGA+ (1680x1050) or WUXGA+ (1920x1200). As Jaguar said, laptop screens are generally smaller, but with higher resolutions.
