Dell 4400 CD Drive Problems

The CDRW drive in my wife's Dell 4400 somehow became damaged and the tray broke in half. I replaced the drive with an older Acer 6+4+32 drive. It dropped right in, but now the machine will not boot when the new CD drive is hooked up. It hangs at the Dell screen. I disconnected the power and cable from the drive and it boots fine.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks

I would have replaced the tray! But then again, I can find broken drives to pull the tray from.

Pull out the Acer drive and make sure it's jumpered the same way. Also, if the light stays on all the time, you have a cabling problem.
