Inspirion 1750 audio problems

Dell Inspirion 1750 laptop has two audio problems:

1. Sound quality a bit scratchy, especially at louder volumes

2. Sound files sometimes play slowly for a moment, and then go back to normally speed.

Latest audio driver for 64-bit Win7 was d/l'ed from Dell's site.

What does Dell have to say about this? It sounds like a hardware as well as a driver problem.

I was out of town at the time of my post and tried here first. Will see if Dell can figure it out.
