Broken outer glass on 42" Plasma, best way to repair?

I have inherited a 2 year old 42" plasma HDTV, unfortunately we broke the outer glass during transport. The tv still functions properly and I have nothing invested at this point. Online web sites show replacement glass available for roughly $360. Is this the best and only plan for repair, or are there other less expensive options?

Is the outer glass "special" with coatings etc. or is it just a piece of glass?

Yes, it is coated with an anti-glare coat.

How could you break the glass?

Cheers!
