Hello,

I am choosing between HP 540,Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 (1.8 GHz) Processor

· 1 GB DDR-2 RAM

· 160GB 5400RPM Hard Drive

· DVD-RW Dual Layer Drive with Light-Scribe

· 14.1" HD WXGA Widescreen Bright view display

· Intel 10/100 LAN + 56k V.92 Modem

· Wi-Fi 802.11b/g + Bluetooth

· Touch Pad with scroll zone + Card reader

· Free DOS Operating System

Dell Inspiron intel® Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.00GHz)

- 2GB Dual-channel DDR-2 SDRAM

- 320GB Hard Drive

- 14” WIDESCREEN XVGA - Display with TRUELIFE Technology

- Slot load 8x DVD/ RW Drive

- Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 MHD

- WiFi 802.11g / 1397

- LAN 10/100

- Integrated 1.3 mega pixel Webcam

- Intel High Definition Audio 2.2

- 7-in-1 Media Card Reader

- Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal(2.1)mini-card

- Free Dos

On the front Inspiron stands out but I read in a forum on Dell website that Dell doesnot provide Windows XP drivers for this model and I intend on using XP.

Has anyone owned it and had any issues with it? Please fill me in with any info i might have missed.

Thanks.

You didn't say what GPU the HP had, but the Dell seems better.

And do yourself a favor and ditch XP. It's old and outdated. Get it with the copy of Vista and upgrade or wait a few months and get 7. Either is better than XP.

Thanks for your time mate. the GPU is "Mobile Intel® GMA X3100, up to 384 MB shared system memory"

So even graphically it is inferior.

I have one more question please, If I get the Inspiron 1440 with a Core Duo instead of Core 2 Duo would it still pass as a better option?

thanks once again.

The notebook isn't really a powerhouse to begin with, and it won't matter if you're just going on the internet and stuff.

I was expecting a better reply.

What I meant was what will be the difference in battery life and performance if I chose Inspiron 1440 with a core duo instead of core 2 duo?

thanks anyway for your time.

The battery difference will be insignificant...ten minutes or so.
