I'm having a very strange problem with my laptop's display. The computer boots up all the way fine. It finishes loading the OS and displays the desktop/icons and then the display turns black/off.

Plugging in a secondary LCD works...and the second monitor doesn't black out. While the second LCD is plugged in, I can switch back to the built-in display and it'll briefly turn back on for a few seconds before blacking out again.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this issue? The only thing I did recently was replace the HD. I've formatted and installed everything over again to no avail. I really doubt this is a software/driver issue. Can the new HD be the culprit? Is the display itself going bad?

Thanks in advance!

Time how long the LCD takes to black out. Then remove your hard disk, and run the notebook without it. It should POST, but not boot. Then let time run out and see if it still does it (without rebooting because of the boot failure, of course).
