I am just curious to see how people are using their entertainment dollars. Do you spend more on:
1) Video Games
2) Movies (either DVD/Blu-RAy or going to the theater)
3) Social activities (having a BBQ or get-together a.k.a. party!)
4) Travel
6) A hobby
7) Something else

I myself have been spending in each about the same

1) $60 every month or two.
2) I used to rent, but no more. I only go to the theatre once every few months.
3) Varies. I spent around $100 yesterday, but I can go months without spending a cent.
4) Years apart. Trivial.
5) Computers and games are my hobbies. LOTS.
7) Food... a lot. Junk food counts as recreational right?

Why hasn't anyone else answered this?

If food counts then beer must be included.

Beer certainly would be included.

Actually, beer accentuates the value you get out of 'other' forms of entertainment so I'd call beer a buff ;)

Depends on the person.
Some people drink for the pure sake of drinking.
My coworker, on the other hand, seems to use it as a excuse to skip work repeatably...

I suppose that is true, but I still like the idea of beer as a buff ;)  but certainly there is such thing as 'recreational' drinking. But see I would rather have something to show for my $$$ rather than just pissing it out with no memory of events. I don't consider that entertainment personally if I can't remember what happened!

Really?
My memory is gone to ***...

I just like to invest in electronics because they last for a while.
For example, my brother has had jobs for 4 years now, and only has a ps2/360 to show for it...

What does his game library look like? I have only a Wii and 360 with a small library but if you add in my PC games into the mix (4 clear 12 Gallon tubs) then you start to see where my earnings have gone over the years :)  Out of curiosity I tried doing a quick estimate of money spent on games over the years. I counted an average of 200 games per tub. That's 800 games in total (in my estimation) times $50 (average price) a pop for a total of $40,000 spent on video games since 1996. That could have gotten me a nice new car!!! But I still feel that I have gotten more enjoyment out of them all than I would have a car so I guess it's all good!

It's all good.

We keep giving away our games.
We've had hundreds though. Just gave away 20-30 and my original xbox. 3 years before my brother sold something like 30 games. Friends keep borrowing and 'losing' them... same for family members, and have lost dozens that way. Have lost a lot of disks due to damage, my mother throwing them away etc.
A lot of money has gone there...

I agree, you've probably enjoyed those more than you would a car.

P.S. I've also downloaded just as many games.

And lets not forget about all the 'extras' that go with games. Like downloadable content, action figures (have all the Soul Reaver/Blood Omen ones) etc. I am sure that has added significantly to my overall total. Anyone else spend $$$ on any of that too?
