Windows 7 mouse pointer frozen

Hello,
I have been using win 7 for a couple years with the same wireless mouse/keyboard combo (microsoft intellimouse explorer 2.0). The other day the pointer mouse pointer froze in the middle of the screen. I have rebooted several times, tried a wired usb mouse (it works on other computers with win7), tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and nothing has worked. The pointer is still frozen in the middle of the screen. I'd like some suggestions on how to resolve this issue.

Look for chipset drivers for your motherboard. I'm guessing the drivers controlling your USB ports are corrupt...

Do other USB things work (thumb drives or whatnot?)
