I'm going to use this laptop mainly for e-mail, typing up essays, facebook, chatting, and watching movies. I'm NOT going to use it for gaming or graphic design.

Neither link works. I recommend getting the largest screen that has the highest resolution. 1280 x 880 won't give you much real estate. Even if you do not game, the laptops without a discrete video adapter with it's own memory are a resource hog and slow down all the pretty visuals in Vista/Windows 7. I think the HP's with the 17" screen are the best bang for the buck.
