For some reason when I start my XP installation, at the "partition" screen neither one of my harddrives is recognized.

The box has a "no fixed disk" message.

Any suggestions?

Get a boot disk from <A HREF="http://www.mirrors.org/archived_software/www.bootdisk.com/original.htm" target="_new">here</A>. Then, partition your HDs with FDISK...there are instructions at the <A HREF="http://fdisk.radified.com/" target="_new">Radified FDISK Guide</A> if you don't know how to. After partitioning your HD, try the installation again.

are the drives recognised in your bios? have you checked all cables are correctly in position? remember you can't fdisk or format a drive your bios can't see.

BTW, here's a something that might be related:

Even though my system runs Win98, everytime I try to run ScanDisk or Defrag...my system freezes up and I have to reboot. There is obviously something wrong with my harddrive atleast my main drive that has holds my OS.

That doesn't sound good. Can you get a hold of your manufacturer's HD utility to check your hard drive for problems?
