White wired xbox 360 controller not recognized??

My system is running windows 7 ultimate 64. I downloaded the latest xbox 360 controller driver from microsoft. When I plug my controller in, the 1 and 4 lights, both blink real fast and nothing else happens. It is not recognized under devices or in the computers device manager. I don't know what else to do. Hopefully someone can help me?

Thanks

More about white wired xbox controller recognized
  1. drive not recognized

    click start
    click computer
    click system properties
    click device manager
    right click on drives
    left click on properties
left click on scan for hardware changes
also try this for the other items on the list

Also if you installed the driver with the anti virus and firewall turned on
this can prevent the system from loading the driver correctly.
Also it may prevent a new device from being recognized or initialized.

Turn off the AV and firewall
    delete the driver
    restart the system,
    install the fresh driver
allow the system to recognize the new device
turn the AV and firewall back on.
  2. This didn't work for me. I'm using a white wired Gamestop 360 controller.
  3. I returned yhe gamestop controller and git an microsoft one.
    It works fine.
