Hey there;
I have a couple of different laptops, both with vga out, and hdmi out. I am trying to cut the cord with satellite and cable providers. I have a 55 in. Hitachi analog projection tv (the last one sold by Circuit City in 2000), and a Pioneer VSX-D814 surround sound receiver. The only inputs available on the receiver are S-Video, composite video, and component video. The receiver was pre-hdmi, but is a really great unit with 125 watts per channel. I have high speed broadband, and with all the TV and movie content available, I can get by just fine with Hulu, Netflix, and other content available on the net. I also have a desktop in my office with an Opteron 170 (@ 2700 mhz) and an Nvidia 7600 GS card (also with an unused VGA out and an occupied DVI out to my monitor). My question is this; What would be the best way to get my receiver or just TV connected, through one of my computers, so I can watch some programming on my big screen at decent (best possible) resolution? Is there an external solution for my desktop (ie. external multimedia hard drives, that would allow me to stream video to my Entertainment system. Any and all suggestions are welcome. I will provide any addition technical details requested to help find a solution. By the way, I am a disabled worker who is back in school after almost 40years, and cost is a huge factor.
