Wondering about ram to get. Yes i've read endless hours of posts and i think its down to a few. First off money doesn't really matter because i want whats best, but i don't want to spend 100$ for a 1% performance increase either :). I'll be using 512x512 duel channel. They will be used in a 865pe board. I will do gaming and mostly video encoding (dvd encoding). Do i need to go crazy or is value ram enough? (someone mentioned in another listing that value ram might work just fine in alot of situations...)

I plan to overclock the 2.6c to somewhere over 3.0ghz so i'll need high mhz ram, but are timings that important?

I was looking at Ballistix BL6464Z505 DDR PC4000 • 2.5-4-4-8 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR500 • 2.8V • 64Meg x 64 " which is there 4ns ram for about 125$ usd. for 512mb

or Ballistix Tracer BL6464L505 DDR PC4000 • 2.5-4-4-8 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR500 • 2.8V • 64Meg x 64 $150usd for 512mb

The only difference is the spreader and led's right? same everything else on these two?...they are the best Ballistix's you can buy correct?

Or for 75 bucks just get some value ram from kingston?????

Discuss ideas please :)

Actually i have used kingston ram bac in the pc133 days. Good stuff!. And yes, your posts were great :). 3.0ghz would be fine as i will be air cooling anyway. But i would like to get ram that *could* go much farther if needed. I also read that pc3200 at super low latency and 4/5 (or is it 5/4) runs good on the p4 boards at least compariable to 1:1 with say pc4000 and not as nice latency...of course i have also read that latency doesn't mean much to the pentium and more mhz wins over lat. (different story for my asus amd board :)

any other ideas? fun to talk computers !!! :).

Yeh my 2.6c will do 3.25 fine at stock voltage, but anything above that and I get BSOD's. Am a bit annoyed about that because I wanted to get to 3.6

Apparently most of the 2.6c's use an older stepping which doesnt overclock as well as newer ones.

I just got me a Gigabyte 3D Rocket Pro Cooler GH-PCU22-VG

http://www.giga-byte.com/Peripherals/Products/Products_GH-PCU22-VG(3D Rocket Cooler-Pro).htm Its the coolest thing ever, looks great, nice lights, quiet, excellent cooling potential. Of course that is all on paper for now, i don't have my 2.6c installed yet :)~

hum, strange, from reading around, getting the 2.6c was the best choice for potential value. (price/performance) Even the review locked at the top of CPU's says to get it? O' well. I'm an AMD guy myself, but i picked up a few free 865pe boards so went and got a couple 2.6c p4's for about 125$ figured its a good deal and if they overclock even better :)

I think I remember Crashman telling me that the 2.4c's actually clock better than the 2.6c's. Im assuming this is because the 2.6c were the first C revision CPU's whereas the 2.4's came in a little later (feel free to correct me if im wrong).
