How to move pagefile

How to move pagefile to the begining of the disk to improve performance.
Sysinternal's `Pagedefrag' or Raxco's `PerfectDisk Defragmenter' did not do
this.

Unless you have a second hard drive,youre best bet is to leave it alone,you
might open settings,select,"let windows manage" click set 2X,then close out,
restart computer.Youre not getting anywhere moving it around on the same
disk.

Page file location on the drive is another issue (along with page file
fragmentation) that is right up there with Santa Claus, Easter Bunny,
and the Tooth Fairy - vast amounts of hype and very little if any
substance.

The only issue with regard to the page file that can have any
noticeable impact on overall performance is whether or not there is
sufficient RAM so as to eliminate, or at least reduce to a minimum,
the need to actually move RAM content back and forth between physical
RAM and the page file.

There is a free utility that you can download and run which will
provide this information for you. It was written by MVP Bill James and
you can get if from
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_pagefilemon.htm or from
http://billsway.com/notes_public/WinXP_Tweaks/

If that utility shows actual page file usage of 50 mb or more on a
regular basis then that is indicative of fairly significant paging
file activity. Adding more RAM will reduce or even eliminate entirely
this activity thereby improving performance.

This apples regardless of how much or how little RAM is currently
installed in the computer, at least up to the 4 gb RAM maximum for
Windows XP.

The Pagefile and MFT are best located in the mid section or
center of a partition.

XP's prefetching & Raxco's Perfect Disk will place boot and
frequently used code at the beginning of the disk, but not the
Pagefile & MFT which require an Off-line defrag.

Recent PCs that have 256+ Megabytes of memory have little
if any traffic on the Pagefile (~40-60 Megabytes) and placement
won't affect overall system performance.
