I don't know what I'm missing. I had an old Dell reconfigured with xp and its great but no sound. I have downloaded drivers, checked and rechecked connections, and checked BIOS but I can't figure it out. I am using jbl platinum series speakers....Please,Please,Please help me.

Sounds like your sound card is toast. Just buy another one. I bought a Sound Blaster Audigy(?) 24 bit for $9 on clearance at a PC store. Sounds better than integrated audio (less electronic noise). Just delete the drivers for the old sound card before installing the new card. Vista/XP will install drivers for it, or you could get the latest drivers off of their website.
