Philips CDV488 laser disc player repairs

I purchased ne a philips CDV488 laser disc player. worked fine for about 6 months, than the platter drawer would not stay open long enough for me to put a laser disc on it. Philips has given me the run-around with not help what so ever do to the fact that they no longer manufacure laser disc players. I would love to have this problem repaired. I was told that Pioneer manufactured the drawer for Philips. Thank you for any suggestions you might have to offer.
