Hello,

I have an HP Pavillion 9040m desktop running Windows XP. The video card recently seemed to have gone bad-nothing on screen at all, not even the boot screen. I tried a second card which also does not work. Both cards appear to be getting power, as the fan is running.

The onboard video is working fine, and the device manager cannot even see a video card. I have tried installing the drivers for both cards with no luck.

The system originally came with Vista, although the video card stopped working before XP was installed. Is there anything else I can try to make it recognize the card, or is the mainboard just defective?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
