Sounds like a trip to the repair shop is in order, and if there is a crack in the screen it'll probably require replacement. Did you buy it using a Visa or Mastercard "platinum" credit card? If so, you might be in luck and the repair covered - check with your credit card company. Usually it just extends the manufacturer's warranty but sometimes they cover accidents (which I'm sure this was 
).
Also, next time your kids/grandkids come visit, I'd frisk them at the door and make them check all potential weapons .
