Every time I start my Compaq Deskpro P800 the system emits 1 short and 2 long beeps and fails to start. Can anyone tell me the reason or the work around please?

Many thanks

Hi Tenapence,

The beep code indicates a video error. Refer below:

http://www.qpci.com/beepcodes/compaqbeep.htm

As stated on the site you may need to check the internal connections in your PC.
Preferably remove the Video card (if it is not onboard) and reseat it. Check other connections while you are in there. RAM cables etc.

If it is onboard (video runs directly from motherboard, no card), it might pay to consider obtaining a compatible video card to workaround the problem if nothing else works.

Video error through that link is 1 long - 2 short!
In your case 1 short - 2 long : Reseat RAM then retest; replace RAM if failure continues.

Thanks for the correction Que.

RAM problems are much easier to deal with than video too.
