If the mobo & video card have their own audio chips, can I get them to drive simultaneously? The video card (via HDMI) will drive the TV's speakers, while the mobo's own chip will drive the HT speakers, via SPDIF.

Haven't done this myself, but it should work as long as the video card supports sending audio over HDMI. I've heard of some that will only send video signals, but not the audio.
