Hi

I have a ASUS P4P800 SE with Dual Memory Slots,
A Question..

Is it better to have 2 x 512MB PC3200 in Dual slots than
2x 256MB PC3200 plus 1x 512MB PC3200 in Dual Slots (So two 256MB in together to one part and one 512 MB in the other slots, so in essence one slot remains open.)

I hope this is clear
Thank you
Ralph

2 x 512MB in my opinion is best. Because 1GB gives you optimal performance.

Plus, in order to run dual-channel, you need memory pairs. The third module you install cannot run in dual channel mode.

Dual Channel for Intel processors requires matched pairs. The reason is, it turns two 64-bit module into on 128-bit module and splits the data stream between them.

So what your saying is
If you'de had a choice you would do this .... Option 1

Option 1= 2 x 512MB PC3200 to get 1 GB and put them is one dual slot each
instead of
Option 2= 2 x 256MB PC3200 in the first 2 slots and a 512MB PC3200 in the first other slot to get the same 1GB...

??????????????
Same amount of RAM but different performance>???

Thank you

OK

I got myself two new 512MB PC 3200 Samsung RAMS today...
Installed them and please enlighten me a little more...
It seems that my application take the same amount (Percentage-wise i mean) or RAM to run on windows...
For example.. When not Overclocking.

BEFORE: a Dual Slot Total 512MB system had around 300KB used up in System Cache
NOW: a Dual Slot Total 1024MB has around 700KB used up in the system cache...

I'm ignorand , but aren't I running the same amount of programs, why is windows sucking out more RAM to use the same amount of programs??? How can I regulate this???

Currently I have only approx. 400KB left to use!!!
Does the Virtual Memory have anything to do with this?
I have it on 768 but can up to 1536, should I put it on 1536 if I have plenty of HDD??

PLease assist,
thank you
Ralph
