I came into my room today to find my monitor unresponsive and a black screen despite moving the mouse and hitting keys. The power light was on and green to show it was not in standby mode. I just couldn't get the screen to light up. It's a 19" gateway LCD with a few years on it. I've tried a lot of different things(check connections, restart, unplug and replug everything), and my laptop acknowledges when it is hooked in and when it is not. Is there any chance the cable just went bad? I would really appreciate any help...Thanks.

It could be a number of things. I would try hooking it up to another laptop or PC, or even turning it on while it's not plugged into the laptop. Usually the LCD will at least pop up and let you use the menu while it's unplugged.
