Howdy guys,

I'm gonna be building a new gaming machine "like a ton of people this time of year" ... and i'm looking for a new monitor to replace this 19" gateway TFT FPD1960 ... Its done me well, but the native 1280x1024 is just killing me .... so to the point ...

I've done quite abit of reading and looking around ... since i'd like to, but not exactly have too ... order it all from newegg ...

I've found the BenQ G2400 .... HDMI/dvi 1900x1200 with a 5ms response ...

I basicly don't do anything but game on this machine, sometimes the occasional dvd ...

This monitor is perfectly in my price range and you know the ole saying of you pay for what you get ...

So with that said, does anyone own one that can comment ... decent reviews on newegg ... and found a few nice reviews of someone using 2 24" benQ's and they looked amazing .... but doesn't everything with a stationary picture ... heh

Its my last choice before i order, i've found nothing else i like within this range .... and seems like it'll do well for gaming ...

Only con, is i wish it had s-vid connections too ...

I think BenQ has stopped selling their good 24" panel. The new ones are TN (cheap), so don't go by any good reviews you've heard of the BenQ brand.

Ok, So i should go by your one post that says don't trust um ... fair enough ... but any chance you could be more specific ... I've been looking at 22" for the price difference but wanted a higher resolution ... i've got a no more than $500 budget on a new monitor ... and with only 2-3 days left to decide ... i'm not having much luck finding reviews or people recommending anything ...

For $500 you have no choice but to buy a 24" LCD monitor that uses TN panels. For the average person and many gamer TN panels will do just fine. Just don't expect to see very good color accuracy with TN panels. Since you are playing games most of the you, I doubt you will complain about colors that may seems to be slight off shade while you running through a jungle trying to gun down your enemy.

When watching DVDs on a TN panel you will probably notice image artifacts and discoloration a little more than on other panel technologies. TN panels can only really produce 256k colors, thru dithering the other 16.2 million colors are created by "blending colors".

You can buy the Lenovo ThinkVision L220x for slightly less than $500 if you want a S-PVA panel that can actually produce 16.7 million colors. However it is a 22" LCD monitor.

To the best of my knowledge, BenQ still produces the FP241W and FP241vW, only the FP241WZ has ceased production.

Thanks for the reply, i did read that about the TN colors in another thread you replied in as well ... I've been really glued to gateways 24" inch option as well ... specially cause of 1080i support and connections for just about everything i could want ... your correct with me prolly not gonna be too picky about off shades an what not ... its the pop off the color, brightness ... and quicker response times to keep ghosting down ... I'll check out that Lenovo ... keep dreaming bout that gateway tho ..

Are the benq FP series better than the G2400 ? ... i was left to believe the G2400W was more geared for gaming ...

I'm still running my older 19" Gateway FPD1960 ... its served me well and its looked just fine for games ... i basicly want more of the same .. but in a larger package .. 24" widescreen flavor ... even droping to a 22" if the quality is that much better ... otherwise ... its off to the store to see if i can't have my brain pick out something i'd be happy with ...

Have a look at the new Dell Ultrasharp 2408wfp. I've just preordered one. They look great and have HDMI with Full 1080p HD support.
