Quotes & apostrophes

Not entirely sure what you mean. Could you please explain a little

What happens now, is that when I hit the appropriate key, nothing happens.
No quote is displayed. If I hit the key again, I get both quotes. I then
must delete the second quote in order to get only one.

It seems to remember that I need a quote there, because if I type letters,
after hitting the quote key, the quote character is inserted correctly and
the second quote appears when I hit the key a second time. However, if I
want only one character, such as a quote, I need to hit the key twice, then
delete one.

It is annoying. When I hit a, I get an a, but when I hit " I get nothing,
and must hit " again, getting "", then delete one.

It is a laptop. The keyboard was OK under XP Home.
The problem started with the upgrade to XP Pro.

I have seen this problem before and there is a fix, but I can't work it out.

Thanks David.

I guess you meant to install US keyboard. I already had the International
loaded, which caused the problem.

The US keyboard works well.
