I have a Compaq DL380 G1 that I just bought and it's like extremely loud during operation. Is there a way to turn down the fans? The systems only running PIII's so it doesn't need THAT fast of a fan. Any advice for the new server owner?

Have you cleaned the fan(s)? Buy an adjustable one, and use a program like MBM for a while to monitor temps and needed fan speed adjusting according to it's output.

Speedfan has the ability to adjust the fan speeds.

go to Compaq (HP) support download and install the Proliant Service Pack. Setup, configure the ones needing configured and then install all of the updates. One of those will control the fan speed.

Installing the server homepage will allow you to monitor systems and environment.

Spend some time searching the Compaq support site.
