i tried to connect my keyboard to the usb port because it is a usb keyboard but it doesn't work, it does connect to the ps/2 port (i think that is what it is called) and it works there i have my mouse connected to the usb port the but the keyboard doesn't work there. any suggestions?

USB keyboards suck. Try plugging it in a different port that hasn't been used by any other USB device, or uninstall a device that is associated with a port that is not in use. Then insert the keyboard into that port and always use that port for your keyboard.

If your keyboard is microsoft and bluetooth download driver here:

Try to use USB connection at the back of the computer.
