I ahve a Dell latitude C640 lap top that stop working.
i took out the hard drive from the lap top .
i need to retrieve some files from this hard drive. if some body knows what adapter i should get to retrieve the files.

If it's SATA, you won't need an adapter. However, if it's ATA, you'll need an 80-pin to 80-pin+molex adapter for desktop machines.
